Support for groups

Climate change is a huge issue with lots of areas where we can take action both as individuals and collectively as a community. It can be hard for third sector groups to know how best to contribute. With sustainability an increasing focus of local and national authorities as well as funders, this is a perfect time to consider where it sits within your organisation.

We have a range of support on offer and it doesn't matter what level of experience you have in dealing with climate issues, we'll work with you at whatever level you're at.

Support for third sector groups is delivered by Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector.

Practical Support

Are you a community group in Glasgow and thinking about your environmental impact? Are you already involved in climate action, and looking to do more? Wherever you are on your journey, the Glasgow Climate Action Hub can support you.

Climate change can seem distant from our daily lives and work. However, climate change and environmental damage already affects us all. Glasgow now has to live with flooding, heat waves, and sudden freezes, and still suffers from pollution from traffic and other sources. As we know, these issues affect our most vulnerable communities more than anyone else.

There are ways we can work together to solve these problems and it’s possible that some of those solutions will actually help you to reduce costs. More than that, we can also help you build your community’s resilience and improve their lives while also helping the planet.

The funding landscape is also changing in Scotland. More funders are asking questions about the environmental impact of their work and how climate change can be integrated into their funding strategies. There’s never been a better time for your group to consider the steps you can take to become more environmentally friendly.

Speak to our environmental advisers

Our environmental advisers help community groups to work to protect the environment, reduce climate change, and adapt to it. We can help your group:

  • Create a plan to lower energy costs, emissions, and waste. This will focus on areas like:

energy use in buildings

travel & transport

food & water

procurement & waste

  • Tackle obstacles like high energy bills, working in a rented building, working in a listed building, and others

  • Create an environmental policy to keep your work on track

  • Demonstrate your climate work to funders (link to blog)

  • Join and create environmental projects and campaigns

  • Talk about climate change with your community

We know that the capacity of community groups is stretched, and at the same time as the climate crisis, the costs of operation are unaffordable. We will do what we can to help you tackle both.

Climate action isn’t about you doing everything, it’s about all of us doing what we can. Our support reflects that. We’re happy to meet any group in Glasgow for a chat about how we can support your work. Contact info@gcah.scot to speak to our advisers.

Funding Support

For those already doing climate work in their community, or for those who are trying to do more, we know funding is always a huge challenge. Our funding adviser is on hand to help you look at ways to attract more funding while also exploring ways to become more sustainable in your fundraising efforts.

How can we help?

  • We can offer 1-2-1 support for your organisation to discuss funding issues, help you develop your funding strategy, funding communications and generate ideas.

  • We can provide follow-up support and coaching.

  • We can review grant applications.

  • We can provide bespoke training/workshops for local groups and networks.

  • We provide access to a monthly environmental grants directory as well as fundraising resources.
