SMALL ADAPTATION
GRANTS PROGRAMME
The images on the page are borrowed from our friends at Adaptation Scotland.
The Glasgow Climate Action Hub have £45,000 to offer to communities who would like to deliver climate adaptation projects.
While we hear a lot about reducing our carbon footprint to stop or slow down climate change, adaptation addresses the changes that have already happened e.g. more extreme weather events, hotter summers etc.
Adaptation is anything that makes communities more resilient and able to cope with these changes. The simplest example of adaption is planting trees. If it’s done right, they can provide shade in the summer and help reduce flooding after storms. That’s a very simple example of something that’s can be more complex so our partners at Adaptation Scotland have produced the Community Climate Adaption Routemap as a practical guide to help communities understand what adaptation might look like for them.
Grant offer
The Glasgow Climate Action Hub with support from Foundation Scotland are making £45,000 available for projects in Glasgow to be delivered between November 2026 and June 2027.
We’re looking to fund projects up to £10,000 but we will consider funding of up to £15,000 if we see the potential for wider impact.
The process
Because adaption is new to a lot of communities, the application process for this fund will be slightly different than usual. We’ll start with a 2-hour intro session where Verture (who operate the Adaptation Scotland programme) will provide an overview of adaption, where it sits within climate action, and the Community Climate Adaptation Routemap. After the overview, there will be a Q&A session for groups to discuss their ideas and an opportunity to ask questions to help refine them.
The session introduction session take place on TIME DATE AND LINK
You don’t have to come into the session with a fully formed project, but we would expect you to have a rough idea of what might work in your area so please read through the Community Climate Adaptation Routemap for inspiration beforehand. The fund is limited so we would ask you to be realistic about what you can achieve. Verture have helpfully written up some examples of adaption projects at different cost levels to give you an idea of what’s feasible.
Anyone who’s interested in progressing will then have 3 weeks to draft a proposal for a project that would work in their community. In that proposal, you'll be asked:
-
What are the specific climate challenges your community faces and which of them will this project help it adapt to?
-
What risks does your community face in the future if this project isn't funded?
-
What lessons could other communities learn if this project was successful?
-
When people look back on this project in 5 years time, what will still relevant?
If you're interested in applying to the fund but aren't able to attend the session, please let us know as soon as possible at info@gcah.scot and we can try to help.
Successful applicants
Because adaptation work needs to be delivered in a certain way to have the desired effect, once grant offers have been made, you’ll have the full, ongoing support of Verture and the Climate Action Hub for the duration of the project.
Adaptation projects can be on your own land or premises, but we would like to see projects that benefit the wider community. Therefore, we would like to see collaborations or, at the very least, projects that have buy in from other community groups or the local authority before drafting a proposal. If your proposal might involve work on public land and you’re unsure how to approach permissions, please let us know beforehand.
If you have any questions about the fund, please feel free to contact us on info@gcah.scot.
